Carrie Steffan Abeling left, "Aunt" Kiefer middle, and Eleanora Kiefer Miller right.

These were the matriarchs who raised and nurtured my father, Albert Abeling. Carrie is on the left, "Aunt" Kiefer is in the middle. She is the sister of Eleanora Kiefer Miller, who is on the right. Carrie and Eleanora are the grandmothers of my dad. He remembered them as strong, solid, stalwart women wh would not be defeated by any circumstances. My grandfather, William was stricken with a seizure disorder that severely disrupted their lives and my grandmother became the sole wage earner. The grandmothers and Aunt Kiefer looked after all the children of the family, including my dad Albert.
