  		1870 Gordon Songer & Elizabeth Kipps Marriage Certificate 1870 Marriage Certificate from Montgomery Co, Virginia Dated March 16, 1870 for the certificate, however, the date of the marriage is listed as March 17, 1870. Gordon is listed as 60 years old, and Elizabeth is 27 years old. Gordon's residence at that time was listed as Macon County, Illinois Gordon's parents are listed as: Jacob and Eve Songer Elizabeth's parents are listed as: Jacob and Elizabeth Kipps Gordon and Elizabeth's original marriage certificate was handed down through the family and eventually resided with Nora Songer, who was single. During Nora's move to Chicago, Illinois, her nephew was able to make a copy of the certificate, which explains why the copy we have available is a scan of a copy. It is assumed that the original marriage certificate was thrown out with Nora's papers when she died.

  		1908 Post Card to Elizabeth Kipps Songer Sent from LV Bodell and is addressed to "my sister". Best guess is that LV is also a woman, who is Elizabeth's sister, and married into the Bodell family and lived in Blacksburg, VA in 1908.

  		Gordon Songer Profile Listed in the index of "Forsyth and its People", a history of Forsyth, Illinois published in 1910. The book is available at the Macon County Geneology Library in Decatur, Illinois. It reads... Gordon Songer - Born in Virginia, July 4, 1810. Married Malinda Crowel June 16, 1831. Came to Magnolia, Putnam County, Illinois in 1835. Came to Macon County in the spring of 1860. He engaged in farming until 1864 when came to Forsyth and erected the first dwelling in the village. His wife died July 29, 1868. Two years later he went to Virginia, where he married Mrs (sic) Elizabeth Kipps. He returned to Forsyth and died there Jan 4, 1882, leaving a widow and large family.
