Donald A Abeling of Essex Junction passed away peacefully on May 12, 2005 after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Amsterdam, NY on August 4, 1926 the son of the late John and Edna Abeling. Don joined the Army in Nov 1944 at the age of 17 to serve his country in WW II. He served in the European Theatre of Operations, combat military police, with the 11th and 4th armored divisions before being honorably discharged in 1946.
He worked at the General Electric Company as an engineering specialist for 34 years before retiring in December 1986. He was a past member of the Essex Junction Lions Club and a member of Mt. Mansfield Masonic Lodge #26 F &AM for 33 years.
Don married Constance MaGee on July 17, 1965. Don loved to travel and enjoyed trying new cuisine. He perfected the art of telling stories and loved to reminisce with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, as well as his children, Nickolett Kaigle and her
husband Robert of CT, Jeff Abeling and his wife Julie of Milton, Sharon Derner and her
husband Jason of Burlington. Don also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Allie and Derek Kaigle of CT., Sarah and Olivia Abeling of Milton and his brother Edwin Abeling and wife Polly of CT., his sisters Ruth Blatchford and Eileen Lincoln of NY, his brother Francis Abeling and wife Carol of FL, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Albert Wesley Abeling.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Green Mountain Nursing Home for all the care and love he received during his stay.
Funeral services will be held at the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service Mountain View Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Dr., Essex Junction, Vermont on Monday, May 16, 2005 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will immediately follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Essex Junction. The family will greet friends on Monday from 11:00 am until the time of the service. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, 1110 Prim Rd. Colchester, VT 05446 or to the Green Mountain Nursing Home, 1102 Ethan Allen Ave.. Colchester, VT 05446.
