167 1800

Either in late 1799 or early 1800, birth of John Y Edwards. Because John and Margaret were not married until 1802, John Y appears to be born out of wedlock.

We are searching for John Y's birth and/or baptism record, but have not been successful yet, as we are unsure of what, or if any church in 1800 would have performed a baptism for a child born out of wedlock.

177 1825: Birth and death of 3rd child, Mary Eliza Edwards.

There is some confusion about exact dates for Mary Eliza, and unfortunately most of the records that exist were transcribed multiple times over the years, but here are the artifacts collected at this time....

1825, Sept 28th: Birth record of Mary Eliza Edwards, mother Catherine Edwards, Father John Y Edwards, records from First Presbyterian Church, Johnstown NY. This record was not found at the church - but on a index card in the family file index at Johnstown NY Public Library. I'm guessing that this card was transcribed from the church records.

1825, Sept 28th: Headstone at Edwards Family Plot at Ft Plain Cemetery, Ft Plain, NY. NOTE: this is NOT Mary Eliza's resting place, but just an inscription added to the family headstone. It lists: Mary E. Dau. of J.Y. Edwards, died Sept 28, 1825, Aged 1 Year.

1825, April 16th, Mary Elizabeth Died April 16, 1825, Aged 10 mos and 18 days. dau of John and Catherine Edwards. This was inscription on a headstone at the Yauney Family Cemetery that was copied by Mrs Caroline Fenton of Broadalbin in 1932. The transcript can be found at the Johnstown Historical Society, William Street, Johnstown NY. A few years after the inscriptions were done in 1932, the remains were disinterred, put in one box and reburied in the Johnstown NY Cemetery under a stone marked "Family of Henry Yauney". website: http://www.fulton.nygenweb.net/cemeteries/YauneyCem.html

Was this two different children or one? Considering the numberous transcriptions done, it could be the same children with a few references having trascription errors. I guess it could also be two different children, as during this time it was common to rename a child with the same exact name after the previous died. This would mean...

Mary Elizabeth: born May 29, 1824, died 10 mos and 18 days later on April 16, 1825. Buried in Yauney family plot, then moved in the 1930's to Johnstown Cemetery

Mary E, born Sept 28th 1825 and perhaps died that same day on Sept 28th, 1825?

178 1827:

* Jan 6, 1827: Henry Yanney (father of Margaret Yanney/Yauney), files his last will and testament at the county court house - and within it he mentions his grandson, John Y Edwards.

"Sixthly, I give and bequeath unto my daughters Susannah Younglove, Catharine Boshart and Dolly Bedford that is to Catharine five hundred hundred [sic] dollars, Susannah three hundred dollars, to Dolly one hundred dollars: To my grandchildren Susannah, Joseph and Catharine Quilhot each two hundred dollars: to John Y. Edwards twenty five dollars: to have to them respectively to their respective executors, administrators and assigns forever, to be paid by my son Philip in seven equal annual payments after my wife?s decease, the first however to each of whom are minors to commence from and after they respectively attain the age of twenty one years, but in no case is any payment to be made to any of the said legatees until after the expiration of one year after the decease of my said wife subject to the directions herein next stated."

* 1827 Approximate birth year of daughter Mary Edwards, who later married William Clark. My assumption is that Mary Edwards is not be associated with the earlier daughter, as it appeared the first or first few Mary's died young.

Edwards, John Y (I429)

179 1829:

* August 4th, 1829: Birth of daughter Margaret Edwards, who married Amos Klock.

* John Y Edwards is listed as a trustee at the Ephratah Reformed Church, Ephratah, NY.

"The next efforts toward an established church at Ephratah is found in the county clerk's records at Fonda, where is recorded the incorporation of "The Dutch Reformed and Presbyterian Church of Ephratah." The record is dated June 1, 1829. At this time (1805-1828) the Rev. John Wack was the supply at Stone-Arabia, and, without doubt, he looked after the religious work at Ephratah, when there was no pastor there. A good many of the Ephratah folks were in the habit of attending the Stone Arabia church, while a few also went occasionally to the Tillaborough church (cf). The trustees of this 1829 church at Ephratah were John Rickard, Philip Kring, Harmanus Shaver, Christopher Getman and John Y. Edwards. Notice that Christopher Getman was the clerk of the original organization in 1823, and Philip Kring (whose name appears in connection with the Tillaborough church in the Stone Arabia records) Qas a trustee of the original church. Between the dates of 1835 and 1851 there are no minutes recorded of any election of trustees for this church, and in 1859 it was formally disbanded. No name of any minister is recorded in connection with this "Dutch Reformed and Presbyterian Church." obtained from http://www.threerivershms.com/Ephratah.htm

At this time, we do not know the circumstances related to her death.

Edwards, John Y (I429)

181 1831 to 1833: Married Mary Cook. Mary was a sister of his first wife Catharine Cook. Church records from Stone Arabia and the death record from St Johnsville confirm that she had the same parents as Catharine Cook - Casper B Cook and Lena Helmer.
