 | 1901 Photo of Stafford Sisters Status: Located; The back of the photo contains...
Edith, 18
Etta, 16
Minnie, 14
My assumption is that Minnie is on the left (looks the youngest). The girl on right looks closest to aunt Etta (remarks from Gretchen Smith Abeling), leaving Edith in the middle.
The notes on the back appear to match the birthdate information for the girls, as Edith was born in 1883, Etta in 1885, and Minnie in 1887. This places the date for the photo at 1901.

 | 1936 Engelhart Family Photo Status: Located; We believe that William Greufe and wife Frances Engelhart are on the left. Her father Jake Engelhart and mother Anna Hermes Engelhart are in the middle, however, we are unsure of exactly which brothers/sisters the others are.
Frances Engelhart Greufe wrote a date at the top of the photo of 1936. Our guess is that the location was the Engelhart family farm outside of Montrose - but this is unconfirmed. |

 | 60th Anniversary for Lester and Katherine Abeling Status: Located; Mr and Mrs Lester Abeling Mark 60th Anniversary
Fort Plain -
Mr and Mrs Lester Abeling, 32 Wheelock Street, overserved their 60th wedding anniversary Sunday and were honored by their children at a dinner at the Firemen's Home, Fort Plain.
The former Katherine Duffy and Lester Abeling, both of Amsterdam, were married Nov 10, 1914 in St Mary's Church, Amsterdam, by the later Father Meagher in a double ceremony. Their attendance, Frederick Abeling and the late Frances Kline were married during the same ceremony.
Mr and Mrs Abeling have resided in Canajoharie the past 59 years during which he has been associated in the garage business and was the former proprietor of Abeling's Garage. He now is retired.
Mr and Mrs Abeling have six children, Robert, Canajoharie, James, Mayfield, Carl, Canajoharie, Thomas, Waverly, Mrs. Louis (Carol) Conrad, Fort Plain, and Mrs. Miles (Kathy) Frasier, Palatine Bridge; 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
All were present for the anniversary party with their wifes and husbands. Also attending were Mrs. Harry Fusmer, sister of Mr Abeling, Mrs. William Ableling, sister-in-law, and Fred Abeling, a brother from Hadley, and his daugther Betty.
Mr and Mrs Abeling were presented a gift from the family. Mrs Abeling received a corsage of yellow carnations and her husband, a boutonniere. Their decorated anniversary cake centered the dinner table. Photo by Hency (Richard Hency).

 | Abeling brothers Status: Located; Left: John Lewis Abeling (identified by Lana Abeling Williams)
Middle Left: Not confirmed, but believed to be Henry C Abeling, as he was known to have been blind for the last 25 years of his life.
Middle Right: Charles E. Abeling
Right: Unknown, but most likely was Robert R Abeling, who was the next to last Abeling son to die. Although Lewis was the last to die in 1934, Lana Abeling did not believe that this photo was of Lewis Abeling.
Date and location are unknown. Based on the people that are known - our only speculation is that this photo might have been taken when the oldest brother, William J Abeling, died in 1919. Assuming that perhaps brother Lewis did not make the funeral, then the these four men would have been the oldest of the remaining brothers. (of course, remember this is just speculation, nothing confirmed)
Special thanks to Joyce Robinson for submitting the photo. |
