Page 29 Notes by Brian Abeling:
This page of the 1880 census contains:
Andrew Abeling, father, age 31
Even though the first name appears to be Orlando, it also appears it was scratched out, since the wife and children actually belong to Andrew, not his twin brother Orlando.
Josephine, wife, age 27
Anna, daughter, age 8
Lillie, daughter, age 6
Carrie/Cora, daughter, age 4 |

Notes |
- Canjo Radii April 21, 1904 Death, marrage info 50yrs old
- Information from Lisa Slaski email dated Jan 3, 2006:
Barbara Elisabeth Minch, b. about 1852, daughter of John Minch and Anna
Christine Hillmes. She was probably born in Dens, Hesse-Kassel, Germany (as
her older brother and several other Minch family members are known to have
been born there). She married Orlando Abeling, according to a daughter's
birth record. The daughter's name was not given, the birth date is 11 Oct
1885, the mother's name on the record was only the surname.
- Information from Lisa Slaski, dated Jan 2006:
Barbara Elizabeth's parents were born in Hesse, but it may have been part of Prussia in 1880... I'd have to check boundary locations. It's certainly could have been confused with Prussia... as they were from the northern part of "Kur-Hessen" now known as Hesse-Kassel from a town/village/hamlet called Dens. Let me check into this a little further. The son John P. was probably John Philip... for her father, John, and her brother Philip. Philip is used commonly on this branch of the Minch lineage. Of course, no proof!
- Information from Lisa Slaski, Jan 2006:
A few interesting facts about Barbara Elizabeth Minch. She was listed as Barbary as a child in her parents home.
1860: Barbary, age 8, residing with parents John and Christina Minch
1865: Barberry, age 13, residing with parents John and Christina Minch
I just found, while reviewing some old notes that In her brother's marriage record (church records: Lutheran Church of Fort Plain) she and her husband are listed as wittnesses as "Barbara Elisabeth Munch, Lendrow Ebeling" (Philip Munch, son of Johann Munch and Anna Catharina born Hillmes to Julie Wetterau dau of Martin Wetterau, married on 31 Mar 1870). I would say that it appears that they are not yet married as we can guess from the 1900 census record. But interesting just the same that they were the wittnesses. I also note that one of the other Abeling's married a Clarence Wetterau. That's an unusual name.
Her brother's death record in 1904 (from the same church records) gives the following information: Philip Minch born in Dens Germany, died 8 Oct 1904, age 72 years, 7 months, 7 days, came in 1854 to settle near Sprakers, then to Fort Plain. One of the first members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. This is one of the records that give birth location and also immigration dates. Just interesting to note. Some of the family stayed in Sprakers.
Died:
- Will is available at Montgomery County Surrogate Court, Fonda, NY. Probate date is May 23, 1904. Will is recorded in book 23, page 588. Died April 19, 1904.
