Obituary:
ILION - Lana L. Williams, age 100, formerly of 1 Bridge St., Ilion, and more recently of Rockhaven Road, Utica, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at the Presbyterian Home, New Hartford.
She was born on June 6, 1908, in Palatine Bridge, N.Y. the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Williams) Abeling and graduated from Ilion High School as the salutatorian. On Aug. 23, 1930, she was married to Norman Williams in Ilion. He died in 1990. In her early years, Lana was an inspector at Remington Typewriter Co., Ilion. She later worked as a cook at Ilion Hospital. Most recently Mrs. Williams was a cook at the Mohawk Homestead. She was a member of the Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church, Herkimer.
Lana enjoyed her summers at Limekiln Lake and loved to ride a motorcycle with her husband. She was a very talented seamstress and also watched many of her grandchildren participate in various sporting events. For many years, Mrs. Williams had seasonal hockey tickets at The Auditorium.
Survivors include her daughter Joyce Robinson of Utica; her son and daughter-in-law Cliff and Millie Williams of Ilion; seven grandchildren - Debra Cantales and husband Joseph of Utica, Diane D?Amore of Whitesboro, Cheryl Van Slyke and husband James of Lairdsville, John Robinson III and wife Maureen of Deansboro, Dennis Williams and wife Barbara of TN., Wesley Williams and wife Carole of Alabama, Jason Williams and wife Paula of Herkimer; 16 great grandchildren, Bryon, Jessica, Cory, Nick, John, Jamie, Joseph, Chelsea, Kevin, Heather, Zachary, Jeremy, Joshua, Logan, Mary and Sarah; her sister-in-law Dr. Ann Williams of New Hartford, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her son Normie Williams, a son-in-law John Robinson Jr., three brothers, George, Bernard, and Inman Abeling, three sisters, Mildred Towns, Anna Burton, and Ethel; her sister-in-law Elsie Abeling.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday Jan. 9, 2009, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Pastor Tommy Dennis and Pastor Gregory Smellie officiating. Burial will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Calling hours are Friday 10 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank the staff on the Birch Unit at the Presbyterian Home for their excellent care of Lana.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church or Souls Harbor Church. Envelopes are available at Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion.

Mrs. Ruth (Angle) Abeling, 51, Ilion, passed away on August 7, 1999, at home, after a brief illness. She was born July 20, 1948, in Ilion , the daughter of Paul and Beulah Hyde Angle, and graduated from Ilion High School class of 1966. She received a bachelor of science degree from Utica College. She married Ronald Abeling on September 18, 1969. Ruth was an occupational therapist at the Developmental Services Offices in the Syracuse area. Survivors include her husband, Ron, her mother, Beulah 'Bea' Angle, he son, Roy Abeling at home; one stepson, Christopher Abeling; her sister and brother-inlaw, Paula and Charles Carey of Utica, her uncle, Sam Hyde and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Harry Angle, and her father, Paul Angle. Interment was in Armory Hill cemetery. (August 11, 1999) | Ruth Angle

POPLAR - Royce Anthony Baker, age 35, of Poplar and Missoula, passed away on Monday May 18, 2009, at his home in Poplar. He was born on Feb. 26, 1974 in Williston, N.D., to Judy Greufe Brown and Tom Baker, Sr.
Royce brought laughter to all his friends and family. He especially treasured his children, Anthony and Joslynn. In his younger years, he enjoyed serving in the National Guard. He loved his jobs, rangeland firefighting, and writing and producing his own music. He especially enjoyed the friendships and camaraderie on the fireline and at camps. Royce's passion was his music. He was a gifted guitarist, producer, writer and arranger. One special achievement was winning the 1991 Battle of the Bands in Wolf Point with his band the Rez Boys. Royce wrote many beautiful songs throughout his life, including many to the Lord, because he knew and believed that Jesus was the Rock on whom he could depend.
Royce is survived by his wife and daughter, Mary and Joslynn of Missoula; son, Anthony of Rapid City, S.D.; grandparents Harry and Myrna Greufe of Poplar; mother, Judy Greufe Brown of Poplar; father, Tom Baker, Sr. of Kenel, S.D.; special cousins, Orin and James Alexander of Poplar and Rocky Boy; aunties, Suzanne (Courtney) Smith of Lewiston, Idaho, Feryl (John) of Helena; mother in-law, Monica LaRoque of Poplar; cousins from Idaho and Montana, Ryan Alexander, Rose Kohl, Luke Bighorn, John D. Grainger and Lainie Grainger; and numerous nieces and nephews. His surviving siblings from North and South Dakota and Montana are: Lori Karges, Georgi Levering, Jo Bailey, Sina Shaw, Myrtis Baker, Tom Baker Jr., Justin Baker, Jessica Lester, Lester Baker, Kyle Baker, Gigi Baker, Stormy Baker, Travis Windgate, Tucson Baker and Tiffany Baker. Siblings of Crow Agency are: Farrol Baker, Shana Baker and Taylor Baker; his brother Ace Baker of Ft. Hood, Texas; and special friends, Richard Vondall, Manny Smith, Chuck Good Shield, Lance Little Bird, Tracy McGowan and Charlie Alloway.
He was preceded in death by his brother and sister, Eric Travis Craft and Sherry Jean Baker; and brothers, Abeata Baker, Tyson Baker and Anthony Baker.
Our beloved Royce, we know Jesus is coming soon and that you are in the everlasting arms safe at home in heaven, beholding our Savior's face. We love you and can't wait to see you again in heaven.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Poplar Assembly of God Church in Poplar. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 22, also at the Poplar Assembly of God Church. Interment with military honors will follow at Poplar City Cemetery. Gina M. Heroth
Mrs. Gina M. Heroth, 76, formerly of Kranesbush Road St. Johnsville, N.Y., passed away Saturday, May 27th, at Hartwyck - Edison Estates in Edison, N.J., after a long illness. She was born May 31, 1929 in St. Johnsville, N.Y., the daughter of Peter and Anna Piniaha Battisti. She attended St. Johnsville schools and received her GED. She also received her Nurse's Aide degree from Herkimer B.O.C.E.S. Mrs. Heroth was first employed at Leon Swears Inc. in Johnstown from 1947-1952 and later worked as a Nurse's Aide at Little Falls Hospital for 16 years retiring in 1995. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in St. Johnsville, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
On Oct. 29, 1946, Mrs. Heroth was united in marriage to Clifford M. Heroth and he survives. She is survived by three daughters, Bonnie Geddes of Edison, N.J., Claudia Heroth of Thorton, Colo. and Charlene Yates of Tuxedo, N.Y.; and two sons, Clifford Heroth Jr. of Naples Fla. and Gregory Heroth of Johnstown, N.Y. Mrs. Heroth is also survived by a brother, Angelo Battisti of St. Johnsville; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; nieces nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Ehle Funeral Home, 15 N. William St., Johnstown, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church, Johnstown, N.Y. Interment will be in Ephratah Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Heroth's memory may be made to the charity of choice.

Mrs. Helen M. Flint --
Helen M. Flint, widow of Edward Flint, died Monday morning at 4:15 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Maxson on Barclay street, after a long illness with Bright's disease. She was born at Mayfield May 16, 1847, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Blowers, but most of her life had been spent in this village. Since the death of her husband she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Maxson. She was a member of the Reformed Church and was highly regarded by those who knew her. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Maxson, Mrs Mable Hoke and Mrs. Clay Hines of this village; two sisters Mrs. Jane Boller of Vail Mills and Mrs. Wm. Kent of Frankfort, and one brother, Lucius Blowers of Fort Plain. The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 o'clock at the Maxson home, the Rev. Victor J. Blackkink pastor of the Reformed Church, officiating. The remains will be placed in the vault in the Canajoharie Falls Cemetery, where the burial will be made in the spring.
